The event was held at BAFTA headquarters in London.
The function was hosted by the forward Trust; the Duchess is the trust’s patron. She was there to officially launch the Taking action on Addiction campaign, and deliver the keynote address. (Some may recall she was the royal patron of action on Addiction for numerous years; that organization merged with the forward count on in April.)

The Duchess of Cambridge has warned “none of us are immune” from addiction.
In her speech, she highlighted the “devastating impact” the pandemic has had on addiction rates. The duchess said: “Addiction is not a choice. No-one chooses to become an addict. but it can happen to any one of us. None of us are immune.
Kate met beneficiaries of the forward Trust, as well as former addicts, to hear of their experiences.

Her speech highlighted the significance of tackling the misconceptions about addiction and its roots in early childhood experiences, another one of Kate’s essential causes in her royal work.
The launch of the long-term campaign — which will work to improve awareness and understanding of addiction, its causes and scale in society to enable much more people to ask for and receive help — coincides with Addiction awareness Week (October 18–24).

“The journey towards addiction is often multi-layered and complex. But, by recognising what lies below addiction, we can help remove the taboo and shame that sadly surrounds it.”
Taking action on Addiction is a long-term campaign which will work to improve awareness and understanding of addiction. It also looks at its causes and scale in society, to enable much more people to ask for and receive help.
The Duchess also said, “I fully support The ‘Taking action on Addiction’ campaign to improve awareness and understanding of addiction. The campaign will show us that, not only do numerous people recover from addiction, they can go on to prosper.”
In the first photo of the Duchess speaking, you may recognize the two gentlemen seated onstage to her right, TV presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. Simon Perry reports she was amazed to see them, ‘Kate composed herself and joked that she thought she was “in trouble” and that they were going to make her do one of their “tucker trials.” Presenter Dec, who was also with singer Tom Walker, said “We can organize that.”‘ per the people story.
The Duchess apparently didn’t realize they were going to be there. Rhiannon Mills of sky news shares the Duchess’s reaction when she bumped into them.

Now for our look at what Kate wore.
Her rich red pleated skirt is by Christopher Kane with thanks to Mari for her tip. This is the Crystal-Embellished Pleated Skirt ($995 at Farfetch, $1039 at Christopher Kane).
The Duchess removed the metal embellishment from her skirt (if this is the same skirt); it is fully detachable. The garment is 100% polyester, with a high waist, ‘sunray pleats,’ and a concealed side zipper. With thanks to The daily Mail’s Caroline P Parr and Middleton Maven, the designer has confirmed it is his piece.
Middleton Maven suggests the top is by Polo Ralph Lauren, the brand’s Slim Fit Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater ($248) shown below. I have not had time to look closely at the piece and am headed out of town shortly.
She brought back a pair of pumps by Ralph Lauren, the retailers’ Celia style ($675, now sold out).
She also repeated her DeMellier Nano Montreal Bag in the ‘deep toffee smooth’ colorway. Below, the bag when carried back in May.
It looks like the Duchess may have brought back her ASOS design 14K Gold-Plated Twist Hoop Earrings ($14.50). The product photo is in the center of the montage you see below.
